Desert Star

I have season tickets to a place called Desert Star. It is a theater that does melodramatic spoofs on movies, tv shows, plays or just about anything that has to do with Utah. For instance some of the shows this year are Home School Musical, American Fork Idol, and James Blonde: Casino Re'al. They have a hero, who you cheer for, and a villian, who you boo at. The cast likes to interact with the audience. We are on the front row, so we get to interact a bit more than usual. We go on the last night of the performance because it seems to be sillier since they do more improvising with lines on the final night. Not only can you see a hilarious(at least most of the time) show, but you can order pizza, drinks, ice cream and a large variety of other snacks. You sit at small round tables so you have someplace for your food. After the show, they perform songs set to a certain theme called an olio. They are all excellent singers and they make that part entertaining too. In between the show and oleo, they recognize birthdays(we all sing happy b-day song), anniversaries(couple dances while audience sings Let Me Call You Sweetheart & then they kiss at the end), 1st dates(which they embarrass the poor couple, but it sure is funny to be an onlooker!), etc.... I've been a season ticket holder for so long(probably since 1997) I have come to have my favorites in the cast(and the ones I'm not so excited to have). And it's fun to have the cast know us(since front row and so many years)! Laughter does the soul good and you can always get laughs at Desert Star!

  1. Live performances are so awesome! Even when I go to my sisters plays two nights in a row everything is different.
